Make use of BAFA services: Modernize systems with state funding

Whether in the chemical-pharmaceutical sector, in the food and process industry or in the automotive sector: anyone operating industrial plants today has to meet increasingly strict legal requirements in terms of energy efficiency, environmental protection and sustainability. The basis for this is not only the ambitious climate targets of the EU Commission, but also regulations such as the Building Energy Act (GEG) or the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) with its TA Luft and TA Lärm ordinances and the associated plant approval procedures.

With BAFA funding and Infraserv Höchst as an expert guide:

  • More energy-efficient production
  • Bringing building technology up to date with refrigeration and air conditioning systems

Become more energy efficient – and take advantage of federal subsidies

Due to the current legal situation, many companies are faced with the situation that they have to convert various systems and their building technology from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources or convert their refrigeration and air conditioning systems to climate-neutral refrigerants. This may require enormous investments, but in many cases it is possible to take advantage of government subsidies.

New EEW Directive opens up many opportunities for financial relief

The revised “Federal Funding for Energy and Resource Efficiency in the Economy” (EEW Directive), which provides funding for investments in energy-efficient technologies in several modules, has been in force since May 1, 2023. For the first time, systems for the development and utilization of deep geothermal energy are also eligible for funding.

Infraserv Höchst's experts will advise and support you, especially in the first four funding modules:

  • Module 1: Cross-cutting technologies
Replacing old systems and units or acquiring new, highly energy-efficient technologies for industrial and commercial applications
  • Module 2: Process heat from renewable energies
Replacement of old systems and units or new acquisition of technologies for heat generation from solar systems, heat pumps, geothermal energy or biomass
  • Module 3: I&C, sensor technology and energy management software
Investments in software and hardware for an energy and environmental management system
  • Module 4: Energy and resource-related optimization of systems and processes
Investments to increase energy and resource efficiency and reduce fossil energy consumption and CO2 emissions

Example: EEW funding for a refrigeration system with a cooling capacity of 100 kW

Your project could be funded with the following grants:
Funding for cooling generators: € 18,131.28
Additional funding: € 8,970.69
of which:
Components and systems (stationary systems): € 6,251.00
Heat pump operation, waste heat utilization, free cooling operation: € 2,719.69
Flat rate for implementation planning for stationary systems: € 0.00
Integration of renewable energy systems (stationary systems): € 0.00
Total funding: € 27,101.98

This information is non-binding. Funding is limited to a maximum of EUR 150,000 and a maximum of 50 percent of the eligible expenditure.

The prerequisite for funding is compliance with the requirements specified in the guidelines for the funding of refrigeration and air conditioning systems.

This could also be of interest to your company: Federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG) also applies to individual measures

With the BEG individual measures, the federal government aims to reduce CO2 emissions from buildings and at the same time promote the use of renewable energies.

The BEG funding can also be applied for non-residential buildings and is capped at € 1,000/m2 of net floor area.

Funding is available for:

  • Individual measures on the building envelope
  • Modernization of system technology (measurement, control and regulation technology, energy-efficient lighting, ventilation, room cooling, etc.)
  • Modernization and optimization of heating systems (e.g. conversion to heat pumps)

Example: Subsidy according to BEG

  • Subsidy for the installation of a heat pump: 25 % of the investment volume
  • Renewal of systems that were operated with natural gas or oil: additional subsidy of 10 %
  • Renewal of lighting, ventilation or air conditioning systems: 15 % of the investment volume

Energy-efficient building and plant technology pays off in the medium term

Legislators' efforts to encourage industrial companies to increase their energy efficiency and to use our environment's resources responsibly open up tangible economic benefits in the long term:

  • Lower operating costs due to more economical processes
  • Reduced consumption of fossil fuels such as natural gas or coal and thus reduced susceptibility to crises in the event of supply bottlenecks
  • “Clean” production on the continuous path to climate neutrality
  • Sustainable processes as a key success factor in competition

Important: Use the experience of specialists when applying for funding

The optimal application for funding from the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) is a complex process in which many details need to be considered in order to receive the maximum possible funding. It is advisable to use the services of experts here - also to conserve your own personnel resources and save unnecessary costs.

If you want to secure the maximum BAFA subsidy for your system modernization, you can rely on the experience and expertise of Infraserv's consultants when submitting your application.

As the operator of Industriepark Höchst, Infraserv Höchst assists numerous chemical and pharmaceutical companies with all aspects of plant modernization, acts as an energy consultant and handles all communications with the authorities for its clients.

Infraserv experts are represented on numerous decisionmaking committees of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) and are always up to date on current legislation.

Mastering the pitfalls of BAFA applications with individual advice

No two industrial plants are alike. But thanks to their extensive experience, Infraserv experts are familiar with a wide variety of system configurations, regardless of the manufacturer.
